Everyone in our class seems to be both familiar with and fond of the Shrek movies. I’ve incorporated this (mysterious) condition into our next reflective piece of writing. Here’s what you’ll need to do:
- Choose one story from your Reading Room collection. Do not choose a story that we’ve read together. And, choose a different story than the one you wrote about in your first reflection piece.
- Think about why you enjoyed this story more than your last viewing of any Shrek movie.
- Write no more than two, double-spaced pages explaining why this story is better than the Shrek movie. Use our categories of plot, character, and/or setting to frame your discussion. I.e. use one (or more) of these categories to guide your reflection.
- As with our last reflective piece, simply insert your essay into your google doc reading journal. Try to write/paste it into the top of your reading journal – – this will make it easier for me to keep track of things.
This assignment doesn’t require any trash-talking or denigrating of the massive cultural achievements of the Shrek franchise. Instead, think of it as a way to hone your understanding of a reading room story against your delight in or tolerance of the green ogre and his ilk.
