Uploading images to a wiki page entails several simple steps. Broadly, these are: upload the image from your desktop to the wiki; embed the image in your page; format the image for your page.
Here’s how to do it:
First, once you have an image that you want to put into your page, note the “Upload file” button or link at the bottom of each wiki page. (See below.) Click on this link.
Once you’ve clicked on the link, you will go to the file upload page. This is a pretty standard form. Select the image you want – – click on “Choose file” – – and then upload it by clicking on “Upload file.”
Uploading an image creates a page for that image. The page will look like this:
Note the name of the page you’ve just created with the image. (In the example, the name of the page is: File:Rhs_mwf.jpeg.) The image is now stored in the wiki and available to use.
To insert the image into your page, simply write the following: [[File:filename]], or in the case of our example [[File:Rhs_mwf.jpeg]]. In other words, on your page, simply put double brackets around the name of the file page you’ve created. If you’re confused about your file name, at the bottom of the image page you’ll see a section that says “File links” – – just copy the link below that and paste it into your page between two sets of double brackets.
The image will now appear on your wiki page!
Formatting your image – – to appear on the left or right-hand side of the page, to have text wrap around it, etc. is pretty easy. Check out this quick and easy tutorial.
And, don’t forget, if you’re worried about messing up your page, you can always practice inserting and formatting the page on our wiki Sandbox – – a page designed to allow users to play with formatting and other practices.
