(Assignment #2)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Your goal in this assignment is to write a sequel\/spinoff to <strong>one<\/strong> of the three novels we've most recently read - -\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Last Policeman<\/span>,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Water Knife<\/span>,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Station Eleven<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the rules:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You must choose a non-major character (i.e. not Henry Palace from\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Last Policeman<\/span>, not Maria, Lucy, or Angel from\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Water Knife<\/span>, and not Kirsten, Arthur, Jeevan, or Clark from\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Station Eleven<\/span>).<\/li>\n<li>You must create and develop a story for this character, a story that we don't \"get\" or see in the novel.\u00a0 Your story can either extend the character beyond the last page of the novel, fill in the character's story before s\/he\/they enter the novel, or elaborate a story that occurs simultaneous to the novel's span.<\/li>\n<li>Your story must be narratively coherent (i.e. consonant with the events and timelines of the novel), ontologically coherent (i.e. share the same story-world and all of its features - - an asteroid is coming, water is scarce, the plague has\/will arrive\/d, etc.), psychologically coherent (i.e. you version of the character should act like the novel's version of the character), thematically coherent (i.e. your story should pick up on\/develop some theme, conflict, or question central to the original narrative).<\/li>\n<li>You have three pages to spin your story.\u00a0 The story can either be a scene or a chronicle.<\/li>\n<li>The \"three strikes\" rule continues to apply.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Due: Thursday, November 14<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Your goal in this assignment is to write a sequel\/spinoff to one of the three novels we've most recently read - -\u00a0The Last Policeman,\u00a0The Water Knife,\u00a0Station Eleven.
