{"id":67,"date":"2017-09-13T19:27:31","date_gmt":"2017-09-13T19:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/teaching.lfhanley.net\/english495\/?p=67"},"modified":"2017-09-13T19:27:31","modified_gmt":"2017-09-13T19:27:31","slug":"for-thursday-914","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teaching.lfhanley.net\/english495\/2017\/09\/13\/for-thursday-914\/","title":{"rendered":"For Thursday (9\/14)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/media.tenor.com\/images\/198413e86dd33740aacf7548da9a8a41\/tenor.gif\" width=\"220\" height=\"220\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, we&#8217;ll meet in the computer lab in HUM 401. \u00a0A couple of things you&#8217;ll want to do before our meeting:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Choose a text you want to annotation super-richly. \u00a0The text can be a poem or a story. \u00a0It probably shouldn&#8217;t be too long. \u00a0<strong>Best option<\/strong>: choose a text that you&#8217;re currently reading (or will be reading) for a class you&#8217;re enrolled in. \u00a0It will make things easier if your text is already online. \u00a0(Not sure? \u00a0Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gutenberg.org\/\">gutenberg.org<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/\">archive.org<\/a>.) \u00a0If the text is not too long, you can always enter it manually. \u00a0If you can&#8217;t decide, bring a couple of candidates to class. \u00a0Create a blog post where you name your text (or texts) and briefly explain why this text\/these texts is\/are a good choice.<\/li>\n<li>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/dashboard.wikiedu.org\/courses\/San_Francisco_State_University\/Digital_Humanities_and_Literacies_(Fall_2017)?enroll=bmhqtagf\">here<\/a> to enroll in our Wikipedia project site. \u00a0Once you&#8217;ve enrolled, complete the two &#8220;training&#8221; sessions &#8211; &#8211; &#8220;<strong>Wikipedia Essentials<\/strong>&#8221; and &#8220;<strong>Editing Basics<\/strong>.&#8221; \u00a0(These are available on our course Wikipedia dashboard and can be accessed once you&#8217;ve registered and enrolled via the link above.) \u00a0As you work through the training sessions, think about particular Wikipedia page(s) you&#8217;d be interested in editing or creating. \u00a0These candidate pages should be literature or humanities-related, so think about writers, books, stories, poems, art works, films, musical works, etc. that interest you. \u00a0Then check to see: does a Wikipedia article already exist for this topic?
