Simple way.\u00a0 Find around 15 lines from &#8220;Song of Myself&#8221; that you either really like or that you think will sound really good.\u00a0 Practice reading these lines aloud.\u00a0 You&#8217;re not reading a scorecard: practice using your voice to interpret the poem &#8211; &#8211; stressing and unstressing, pitching high and low, slowing down and speeding up.\u00a0 Your goal is to add something to the poem and its lines.\u00a0 (Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.write-out-loud.com\/how-to-read-poetry-aloud.html\">a nice little tip sheet<\/a> on reading poetry aloud.)<\/p>\n<p>Next, make sure your computer has a webcam.\u00a0 (If it doesn&#8217;t, you can use any recent Mac in any computer lab on campus.)\u00a0 Then, go to the YouTube account for our class.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/\">YouTube<\/a>: Username &#8211; englisgh630SFSU; password &#8211; 1600holloway.\u00a0 (Or, you can create your own YouTube account or use your existing account.)\u00a0 Click on the &#8220;Upload&#8221; button in the upper right-hand corner.\u00a0 Follow the instructions to: record your video;\u00a0 edit;\u00a0 save.\u00a0 It would be a good idea to save your video with your initials or fist name in the title.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re shy or worried about Russian mafia hackers, etc., you don&#8217;t have to show your face in the video, or at least your entire face.\u00a0 But, remember, even with your eloquent voice, things could get a little boring staring at a white wall or curtain.<\/p>\n<p>2) More complicated way.\u00a0 Here, you&#8217;ll not only read the poem aloud but also accompany it with some visual commentary.\u00a0 This will require a bit of familiarity with a digital storytelling application like iMovie or MovieMaker.\u00a0 Both of these applications are very, very simple to use.\u00a0 Although this is the more complicated option, it is also often the more enjoyable and creative option.\u00a0 For more details, got to <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/whitmanmiscellany\/home\/digital-commentary\">this extensive &#8220;how-to.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0 Embed your video into your blog.\u00a0 Go to your blogger blog and create a new post.\u00a0 In the editing window, you&#8217;ll notice a little icon that looks like a movie clacker &#8211; &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/teaching.lfhanley.net\/english630sp12\/files\/2012\/02\/clacker.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60\" title=\"clacker\" src=\"http:\/\/teaching.lfhanley.net\/english630sp12\/files\/2012\/02\/clacker.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"58\" height=\"50\" \/><\/a> &#8211; &#8211;\u00a0 right next to the image icon.\u00a0 Click on this and a new window opens up titled &#8220;Select a file.&#8221;\u00a0 Click on &#8220;From YouTube.&#8221;\u00a0 Search for the title of your video.\u00a0 Click &#8220;Select.&#8221; Your video will now be embedded into your post.<\/p>\n<p>Questions?\u00a0 Email me or stop by the virtual office hour (11 a.m.) on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZQkwtndYnYc?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You have two ways to YouTube your Whitman reading: the simple way and the more complicated way. 1).
