{"id":139,"date":"2012-04-16T17:09:31","date_gmt":"2012-04-16T17:09:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/teaching.lfhanley.net\/english630sp12\/?p=139"},"modified":"2012-04-16T17:09:31","modified_gmt":"2012-04-16T17:09:31","slug":"classroom-project-reset","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teaching.lfhanley.net\/english630sp12\/2012\/04\/16\/classroom-project-reset\/","title":{"rendered":"Classroom Project Reset"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/teaching.lfhanley.net\/english630sp12\/files\/2012\/04\/Thomas_Hart_Benton_Jeolous_Lover.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-140 aligncenter\" title=\"Thomas_Hart_Benton_Jeolous_Lover\" src=\"http:\/\/teaching.lfhanley.net\/english630sp12\/files\/2012\/04\/Thomas_Hart_Benton_Jeolous_Lover-300x243.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teaching.lfhanley.net\/english630sp12\/files\/2012\/04\/Thomas_Hart_Benton_Jeolous_Lover-300x243.jpg 300w, https:\/\/teaching.lfhanley.net\/english630sp12\/files\/2012\/04\/Thomas_Hart_Benton_Jeolous_Lover.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>First, due to a family emergency, class will be cancelled for Thursday, April 19<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This means that our first flight of classroom presentations will be delayed for a week. \u00a0E.g. the Rukeyser and Sandburg groups will be re-scheduled for Thursday, April 26. \u00a0Be sure to check the motherblog this Friday for your online blogging due for Tuesday, April 24.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, this turn of events represents a kind of unhappy serendipity. \u00a0As I&#8217;ve talked to our first two groups, I recognize some things that I need to clarify and formalize. \u00a0For instance, the following:<\/p>\n<p>1) as I&#8217;ve explained a couple of times in class, the classroom presentation is not about lecturing or delivering information. \u00a0The goal for each group is to help the class read and think about the relations between our chosen &#8220;Whitman heirs&#8221; and Whitman. \u00a0To achieve this, the best strategy is to:<\/p>\n<p>a. read and think together about the poet\/artist that you&#8217;ve selected. \u00a0I&#8217;ve created a google doc for each group. \u00a0You can use this space to share ideas, questions, proposals, etc. \u00a0You should be able to access the google pages through these links (e.g. without having to sign-in, create accounts etc.): <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1TG1e-kvnClbMKEcPUKUCI8k63OLPJ7qye-r0mChmsUM\/edit\">Ginsberg<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1LljhMZStQkMH9PiZ9IDYiamWhJn2pSNozLB2vH8Gf8k\/edit\">Levine<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/10dM-Q6u3lWP4F0nq0YoXxvUlRSnlokGXOrfhAxB-kBU\/edit\">Guthrie<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1ISURLqkjppvAabVamNufBVjDtaCrJSb18t8EIbAAnZo\/edit\">Coen Bros<\/a>\u00a0(the Sandburg and Rukeyser pages are already up and functioning).<\/p>\n<p>b. the fruit of this collaboration should be to arrive at two things: a text or selection of a text that you want the class to read; and, a set of questions to help guide the class to investigate the connections and ideas your group is interested in.<\/p>\n<p>c. \u00a0as you develop these google docs, I will check-in periodically to comment on your work and (hopefully) help to guide you toward a successful presentation. \u00a0If you have a discussion going and want me to comment on it directly &#8211; &#8211; please email me.<\/p>\n<p>2) Once you&#8217;ve reached this stage &#8211; &#8211; decided on a text or part of a text you want everyone to read and a set of questions and goals &#8211; &#8211; you will probably need to ask me to scan texts so that they can be distributed to your classmates. \u00a0You should do this by email. \u00a0Try to give me 24 hours at least to scan etc.<\/p>\n<p>3) You will then need to post your assignment to your blogs. \u00a0You can do this individually or collaboratively &#8211; -e.g. everyone posting their assignments on their own blogs, or deciding to post your assignments on one particular member&#8217;s blog. \u00a0Again, email me so that I can post the assignment to the motherblog. \u00a0You will need to be at this stage &#8211; &#8211; with an assignment posted on a blog &#8211; &#8211; by the Friday of the week before your presentation. \u00a0Thus: Rukeyser and Sandburg &#8211; &#8211; by Friday, April 20; Ginsberg and Levine &#8211; &#8211; by Friday, April 27; Guthrie and Coen Bros. &#8211; &#8211; by Friday, May 4.<\/p>\n<p>I know this sounds a bit elaborate. \u00a0But, the main thing is to start working together NOW and get things in shape before the Friday that your blog post is due. \u00a0Questions? \u00a0Email me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First, due to a family emergency, class will be cancelled for Thursday, April 19.
