class, and we&#8217;re going to keep it pretty simple.<\/p>\n<p>Your goals in this class are: to publish at least two blog posts on blogger; read and comment on at least two of your comrades&#8217; blog posts; browse and comment on Whitman&#8217;s Specimen Days.\u00a0 The two blog posts are due by Tuesday at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>1) blog post one: comment on your favorite two lines from &#8220;Song of Myself.&#8221;\u00a0 Find your favorite couple of lines and put those at the top of your blog post.\u00a0 Use a couple of paragraphs to explain what you like about these lines.<\/p>\n<p>How do I do this?\u00a0 First, go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogger.com\">blogger.com<\/a>; log in.\u00a0 In the upper right-hand corner of your blog, you&#8217;ll see a link that says &#8220;New Post.&#8221;\u00a0 Click on that link.\u00a0 Type in a title for your post.\u00a0 In the large text box below the title, write your post.\u00a0 Click on &#8220;Publish Post.&#8221;\u00a0 You are now a published author!\u00a0 Congratulations!<\/p>\n<p>You can always go back and re-edit your post.\u00a0 At the bottom of your blog post, you&#8217;ll see a little icon that resembles a pencil.\u00a0 Click on that.\u00a0 Your post now appears in the editing mode.\u00a0 Cut, copy, paste, etc.\u00a0 Then, click &#8220;Publish Post.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While you&#8217;re in the editing box, why not play around with your blog text.\u00a0 For instance, insert an image.\u00a0 Click on the little picture icon in the toolbar above the text box.\u00a0 A window will pop up that will ask you to &#8220;choose files.&#8221;\u00a0 Click on that and upload the image.\u00a0 After clicking on &#8220;Add selected,&#8221; you can resize the image, change the text flow around the image, change its alignment, etc.\u00a0 Experiment.<\/p>\n<p>You can also include links, especially by linking text in your post.\u00a0 For instance, say you mention &#8220;Song of Myself&#8221; in your post, and you want readers to be able to see the poem if they wish.\u00a0 In the edit box, simply highlight the text &#8211; -here &#8220;Song of Myself&#8221; &#8211; -and then click on the little icon titled &#8220;Link.&#8221;\u00a0 Paste in the url for the page you want to link to.\u00a0 Keep editing and then publish your post.<\/p>\n<p>Need more help, try the <a href=\"http:\/\/support.google.com\/blogger\/?hl=en&amp;rd=1\">blogger help page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2) read and comment on at least two of your comrades&#8217; blog posts.<\/p>\n<p>You can find your colleagues&#8217; blog posts in two ways: in the blogroll in the right-hand column of the mother blog.\u00a0 (Look to the right!)\u00a0 Or, via a new addition to the motherblog &#8211; &#8211; the page titled <a href=\"teaching.lfhanley.net\/english630sp12\/class-blog-feed\/\">Class Blog Feed<\/a> (again, look to the right under the Pages heading).\u00a0 If you use the blogroll &#8211; &#8211; just browse through the links until you find a couple of posts that look interesting.\u00a0 If you use the Class Blog Feed page, be patient while the page loads.\u00a0 Once it&#8217;s loaded, you&#8217;ll see a digest of all the recent blog posts from the class.\u00a0 Scroll through these until you find a couple that look interesting.\u00a0 Click on the linked title of that post.<\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve arrived on your fellow student&#8217;s\u00a0 blog post, make sure you&#8217;re logged into blogger.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll see a link labeled &#8220;comments,&#8221; &#8220;add a comment,&#8221; or a comment box under the blog post.\u00a0 Click the link and type your comment into the box.\u00a0 Click &#8220;publish.&#8221;\u00a0 Your comment is now added to the blog.<\/p>\n<p>3) blog post two.\u00a0 First, go to <a href=\"http:\/\/etext.virginia.edu\/toc\/modeng\/public\/WhiPro1.html\">Specimen Days<\/a>.\u00a0 Browse through the headings for the sections of Whitman&#8217;s diary\/memoir.\u00a0 Click on a heading and read the entry.\u00a0 Blog your response to the entry in a couple of paragraphs.\u00a0 What&#8217;s interesting about the entry?\u00a0 How might it relate to &#8220;Song of Myself&#8221;?\u00a0 How does it add to your understanding of Whitman and\/or Leaves of Grass?<\/p>\n<p>A couple of other things:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; &#8211;\u00a0 blogging is an informal kind of writing.\u00a0 Think of your blog as a place to think out-loud about the poem, Whitman, Specimen Days, etc.\u00a0 Your blog should function as a kind of public or quasi-public journal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; &#8211; <strong>don&#8217;t forget<\/strong>: I&#8217;ll be in the google hangout on Monday at 11 a.m.\u00a0 To join the hangout, be sure to add me on google+.\u00a0 I.e. sign into google.\u00a0 Then click <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\">google<\/a>+ from your google bar &#8211; -at the top of your browser window.\u00a0 Click on the little &#8220;circles&#8221; icon.\u00a0 At the top of the page you&#8217;ll see link that says &#8220;find people.&#8221;\u00a0 Click on that, enter my email, and add me to your google+.\u00a0 On Monday at 11 a.m., I&#8217;ll send out an invite to join the google hangout.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re having trouble finding me or the hangout &#8211;
