For this Tuesday and Thursday, let’s:

  • finish our discussion of Jeff VanderMeer’s The Strange Bird.  I’m excited to hear what you have to say about a couple of things in particular – – the foxes and the ending of the novella.  I’m also interested to hear how you think VanderMeer’s novella “fits” or doesn’t “fit” with our emerging sense of the post-apocalyptic genre.
  • read about half of Rebecca Roanhorse’s Trail of Lightning – – up to about the end of Chapter 19.  It’s a pretty action-packed, fast-paced narrative and a pretty wild re-imagining of the post-apocalyptic story.
  • finish transferring your Wikipedia drafts to actual Wikipedia pages.  You should only do this after receiving two peer reviews and revising in light of that feedback.   Don’t forget: even if you have already transferred your draft to Wikipedia itself, there’s still more work to be done – – essentially blinging out your page and polishing it up. (See Week 10 on our dashboard timeline.)  Be prepared: once you’ve made your editing work public, you will likely get feedback from Wikipedia editors outside of our class.  If you do, review this feedback and adjust your article accordingly.  At the end of this month, we’ll pause the Wikipedia project so that you and I can evaluate your work.
