Parks and Rec Final

Congratulations!  You’ve used structuralist narrative poetics to analyze a sitcom.  (Bet you won’t hear that phrase ever again.)  Now that you’ve completed your analysis, here’s what your final project should look like.

On our class wiki:

Create two new sections for your season/episodes page (put these at the top of the wiki page).

Main Opposition:  this section should simply state the main opposition you see as you review all of your episodes, i.e. what seems to be the main conflict that the season returns to again and again?

Narrative DNA:

Now, create a new section at the top of your wiki page.  Title this: “Reflections.”   This section should comprise about three or four paragraphs.  In the section, reflect on the two or three most interesting things you’ve learned about Parks and Rec through your analysis.  What kinds of new, interesting things did structuralist analysis show you about Parks and Rec?  About sitcoms? About narrative structure?

Here’s what your final wiki page should look like:

Reflections

Main Opposition

Narrative DNA

Episode analyses (for each episode)

  • Plot summary
  • Oppositions
  • Actors
  • Sequence of Narrative Actions

Let’s make this final wiki page due on Tuesday, December 18.
