For Thursday (12/5)

We did several things with the Season 1, Episode 1, of Narcos in class on Tuesday: 1) boiled the episode down to its sequence of story-events; 2) used some of Propp’s labels to make sense of the narrative sequences; 3) started pointing to binary oppositions that seem to structure the narrative (“real” good guy vs. “false” good guy or “real” vs. “false,” and a couple others to consider – –  good vs. bad, state vs. crook, Colombian vs. American).

Your goal for class on Thursday is to accomplish the first – – you and your partner should boil down the discourse of each of your three episodes to its core chronological sequence of events.  Do this on our class wiki.  We’ll talk about this in class, and we’ll talk about which “Proppian” functions you can discern in the episode.
